Getting back to Originals - part 2

So here comes part 2 where I'll enlist more such ways through which our past had contributed to our present and future!

6. Our meals are an epic example of a wholesome and balanced meal. Right from the north to down south, east to west, our meals are power pack houses of proteins, carbs, fruits, veggies, the milk products, and the sugars and oils, which form the different components of a balanced diet.
Time and again we have heard of consuming whole meals, a balanced diet is a healthy diet and the like. We follow diet plans and research the internet to find the best suited balanced diet and the most nutritious one, but have we ever researched with our mothers? No!
She would be the person telling you, which is the best balanced diet for you, according to your likes and dislikes, according your culture, according your budget and economy, according to her ease of cooking and according to everything that's available in the markets seasonally. So stop the search and go and have a wholesome tasty meal at home!!

The varied parts of India have varied meal patterns and varied recipes for each dish. Yet one that keeps us together is the tradition of a balanced diet.

The north has chapattis, paneer subzi, dal Makhni, onion / tomato - cucumber salad and a whole glass of thick fulfilling sweet lassi. A complete meal.

The south has Idli dosa (combination of dal and rice) sambar with veggies, coconut chutney that gives the requires fats and proteins, ending with a pineapple sheera.

The east has the majority of marine fishes and animals that give the proteins, rice, the green leafy veggies, and a fruit in the end. To top it all up, they have rasgullas which is a combination of chenna and sugar, thereby completing the meal.

The west has a salad to start with, chapatti, dal, veggie, fruit Shrikhand / fruiy custard, and a glass full of salted chaas OR buttermilk.

Truly the Indians know the art of food combinations which provide good nutrition and health to those who follow it. If the above meals are studied and understood properly, and also eaten as our grandfathers have eaten, none would fall ill at an early age. Yes, there are various factors which play role in the shift of diseases to answer earlier age, however, food is one factor which have partially reverse the shift. It is up-to us, how we eat, what we eat, where we eat, with whom we it and most importantly why we eat.

Do we eat together live OR do we live to eat!! The day this question is answered, I'm sure most of our health problems will be solved and a soulful life that awaits us, has received it's destination!!
