The Organic Guide

It's an all new era of organic foods. Everyone wants to turn to organic fruits, vegetables, and finished products. But we are pretty unaware of what is authentically organic and what is just a false claim.

Here are some of the tips you should know to pick the right organic product.

1. Check the label of organic foods. It should contain the logo of "organic" as certified by the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India).

2. Single ingredient packets should be labelled "produce of organic agriculture."

3. If you find the claim "certified organic", it means that atleast 95% of the ingredients are of organic origin. This holds true only If the claim is supported with the FSSAI organic logo.

4. A product cannot be called "organic" when less than 95% of the ingredients are certified organic.
However, they can be labelled as "made with organic ingredients" instead. But, if the product  contains less than 75% of ingredients which are of organic origin, it cannot be called organic at all.

5. The farms where these ingredients are cultivated, should also be certified organic. One cannot harvest an organic crop from a field which has been subjected to harsh chemicals like herbicides, fertilisers, insecticides, etc. It takes a few crop cycles for the land to remove all its chemicals and become organic.

To switch to organic isn't easy. With low demand, and supplies, the prices are too high for one and all to afford it. It maybe called the foods of the rich..

But At the same time, in the long run, it ought to be the food for all. The money spent today on organic food, is an investment for the future. You will save the money saved on your health issues in the near future. Organic food is more healthy and hygienic than the rest but it is very important to know what is organic and what is not. Choose wisely.

Organic will be the only available food in the near future. And that is the trend we all want. So we have to work towards it.

Read. Stay informed. Be aware. Choose what you want. And be what you want!
